Start Writing, No Matter What!

Being Consistent and Having the Courage to Find Your Voice

“Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.”

―Louis L’Amour

Let’s be real, writing is hard. It’s challenging to find your voice, especially when you first start. You need to search for the right topics to write about, find the appropriate place, block time, and be consistent.

But doing all this right doesn’t free you from having negative thoughts and being hesitant. Aren’t you?

What if my writing is not excellent enough? What if I’m disliked?

Let me tell you that your first content will not be excellent, and it’s OK.

You shouldn’t overcomplicate the writing process, tough. You need to get used to writing more and more to improve your style, and one day you’ll find your voice for sure.

The more important thing is to develop the right mindset. You shouldn’t think that succeeding in writing is a quick win.

No, no no no my friend, it’s a long improvement journey where you should be consistent, face your fears, accept your flaws, and move forward to get better at writing.

It’s easier saying than doing, right? You‘re maybe wondering how I do it. You’re stuck, unable to write a single piece of content, or you lack consistency.

The first thing to do is GET YOUR WHY right!

Getting your why right is the first thing that you must do. Take a piece of paper and write your writing goals and causes.

Why do you want to start writing at first glance? Is it to share your knowledge with others to establish your authority? Is it to make money online?

Take your time to find your WHY (but don’t stay here forever!) since it will be the source of your unstoppable energy, motivation, and courage…

Let’s say that I want to start writing to make money on Medium. So, my writing practice will be attached to this Broad Making Money Goal, and then if I fail to make money, I’ll be frustrated and quit writing for sure, which is not good!

The second thing is to understand WHAT YOU MUST DO TO SUCCEED WRITING!

Let’s return to the above goal of making money writing on Medium. First, let me tell you that this is a broad and unclear goal that means nothing. Honestly, it’s a quick fail!

You need to make your goal clear enough to have no choice except to SUCCEED! You need to know what to do and when to do it clearly, without doubt.

Let’s improve the above goal:

Goal: I want to make $50 on Medium this month by writing and publishing 4 articles weekly.

Actions:

  1. Research and find a niche that I’m confident to write about. Look on Medium for published articles with high engagement, then craft down your targeted list of articles to write about. Do this once at the beginning of each month!
  2. Block time to write daily and decide on the place where you want to practice your writing, removing hesitation and distractions. Normally, as a beginner writer, it may take you from 2–4 hours to finish a 1000-word article. So, get your expectations right!
  3. Be active on the platform. Block time to engage with other writers and share your opinion by commenting on other articles. Don’t accept magic things doing this except for a few followers and a few engaged readers.
  4. Improve things more and more to get the best of your time while protecting your mental health. Writing online isn’t easy. You need to improve your writing process, select the right topics, and deal with frustration, setbacks, doubts, perfectionism, etc.

Wrapping Up!

Start writing, no matter what! I hope these ideas will help you make writing a daily habit that will bring you many achievements and enormous success.
